Monday, September 18 Rye Festival presented Terri Flemming, an experienced senior advertising copywriter who read from her new book, Perception. She was born in Australia, lives now in England but wrote the book in Switzerland, Zurich where her husband worked for a few years. Jane Austen (1775-1817) lived quietly as an English country woman and published several novels anonymously between 1811-1817. This year is the 200th celebration of her extraordinary life.

Mike Eve, chair of Rye Festival and friend, introduces Terri Flemming

Perception is Terri Flemming’s first book. She explained that she always was a Jane Austen fan and that  the language, sense of irony and humour inspired her to write this sequel to Pride and Prejudice. The book continues the adventures of two Bennet sisters, Mary and Kitty, in the Regency world known to the many Austen lovers.

Nikki Stuart, Rye Festival trustee, fronted a very interesting question and answer session in between the readings after which the audience was able to ask questions.

It was clear that many people present had read the book and loved it very much. There was a sense that a film of the book would be a good idea and Terri said that she would of course enjoy writing the script if she was lucky enough to be asked.. Watch out for her second offering.
