Fifteen youngsters from the YT93 Academy formed a choir to sing at the Rye Christmas Festival on Saturday December 9.

They performed a set on the steps of the Butter Market in Market Street in the late morning, another set at the nearby Kino cinema in the afternoon, and then rounded off by singing at the carol concert in St Mary’s.

The academy is based in Cranbrook and caters for children of all ages, covering all the theatrical arts such as Lamda Dance, musical theatre, and vocal work. Past performances include an appearance at the Leeds Castle Classical Spectacular with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Academy’s founder and Principal is Christina Yates, supported by Marc Henderson (vocal coach), Kate Sparkhall (dance), and Tony Pape, occasional choirmaster.

The choir’s next visit to Rye is programmed for July 2018 at the Kino.

  1. Oh Mr Pape,
You looked just as angry on the Surlies record back in the day. Not many teachers inspire to the degree that you do. I was inspired by you, and I hope the new crop are similarly inspired.
    Merry Christmas,
    David (your former pupil)
