Film club leads on "Shape"

Our new line-up of major films takes us through the summer to the end of the year with more cinematic delights to tempt you showing at Rye Community Centre, Conduit Hill.
You will also notice a special extra film on Friday October 19, featuring Rye’s own Martin Wimbush who will introduce the film on the night with all proceeds going to charity. In the film he plays a butler to James Brolin, playing an American who inherits a title and a castle in eastern Europe.
Doors 6:30pm for 7pm start.

Friday August 3 – The Shape of Water  (2017 – 123 minutes)
One of the biggest films of the past year, this story is set in a top-secret research facility where lonely janitor Elisa Esposito (Sally Hawkins) forms a unique relationship with a mysterious amphibious creature being held in captivity. Hawkins was Oscar nominated not just for her role in this film but also for Maudie, which we showed last month. She chose this fiilm of the two to be put forward for consideraton. A magnificent fable from master storyteller Guillermo del Toro.
Friday September 7 – Thee Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri (2017 – 115 minutes)
This film won five Baftas and two Oscars earlier this year and stars Frances McDormand in a powerful performance as a murdered girl’s defiant mother who challenges the local authorites to catch her daughter’s murderer. She paints three billboards with a controversial message aimed at the local chief of police (Woody Harrelson).
Friday October 5 –  Isle of Dogs (2018 – 101 minutes)
This splendid animation comes from acclaimed director Wes Anderson. After an outbreak of dog flu in the Japanese city of Megasaki, all the dogs are exiled to Trash Island. A young boy, Atari, with the help of five friendly dogs searches for his lost dog ‘Spots’. Featuring a star-studded voice-over cast including Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Jeff Goldblum, Frances McDormand, Scarlett Johansson, Harvey Keitel, F. Murray Abraham and Yoko Ono.

Friday October 19 – Royal Hearts (2018 – 120 minutes)
When Hank Pavlik, a widower from Montana is told he has inherited an estate in an eastern European country, he reluctantly travels there with his daughter Kelly to find that he has not only inherited the estate but also the country and the title of king. Starring James Brolin and Cindy Busby in a light-hearted romantic romp – featuring a special introduction on the night by local actor Martin Wimbush.
Friday November  2 – The Party (2017 – 71 minutes)
Janet (Kristin Scott Thomas) hosts a party to celebrate her new promotion as shadow Minister for Health, but once the guests arrive it’s soon clear that not everything is going to go down as smoothly as the red wine. Before dinner is served the upbeat ambience is shattered as festering secrets surface in this domestic war zone. Co-starring Timothy Spall, Patricia Clarkson and Cillian Murphy.
Friday December 7 – The Greatest Showman (2017 – 105 minutes)
This major musical tells the rags-to-riches story of P. T. Barnum who rose to become the “greatest showman” of his age, offering his audience never-before-seen amazing live acts at his freak show and his world famous circus. When the obsessed showman gambles everything on opera singer Jenny Lind to appeal to a new high brow audience, he risks losing sight of the most important aspect of his life: his family. Will he risk all for acceptance?
