Following his appointment as chair of trustees of the Rye Art Gallery as from September 1 2017, Trevor Llanwarne has written to all those who have expressed interest in receiving news and updates from the gallery.

In his letter, he pays tribute to Michael Miller, his predecessor, who, he said, had brought the gallery through very difficult times during the five years of his term of office, with the commitment and the initiatives which he had set in train. Michael Miller has agreed to continue as a trustee.

Trevor Llanwarne writes that the process of consultation promised at the open meeting of the Friends of Rye Art Gallery last April is now taking shape. As the first stage, the trustees will present ideas for member involvement and options for activities and invite feedback from those who wish to become subscribers. The second consultation will be a strategic consultation on the longer-term plans once the new subscriber regime is settled. This is likely to be in late 2018 or 2019.

Meanwhile, events – exhibitions, awards, workshops, and socials – are planned and being worked on for the rest of 2017. Artist Will Taylor and ceramicist Celia Allen are exhibiting their work in gallery 3 this month and next – For detailed information, consult the gallery website.

A new Secretary to the trustees is being sought and applications are invited from anyone interested, replying to trevor@llanwarne.com
