The popular New Foxtrot Serenaders returned to Rye on Friday evening, April 28, in an entertaining evening with Rye’s own Michael Wooldridge, the internationally acclaimed Wurlitzer organist. The audience, which included visitors from France, enthusiastically tapped their feet and hummed the favourite old tunes of the 20s, 30s and 40s, as this exuberant dance band treated everyone to such treasures as “Happy Days are here again,” “Spread a little Happiness“ and a medley of Bud Flanagan favourites. Michael Wooldridge’s medley of British songs that had been successful in the Eurovision Song Contest over the years proved another enjoyable trip down Memory Lane. During the interval, everyone enjoyed complimentary hot drinks and a variety of delicious home-made cakes.

As always, the show was compered by Richard Moore, wearing a range of his indescribable waistcoats! He handed out information about the forthcoming Musical Coastal Excursion on Wednesday June 7, a day trip on the heritage ship, the MV Balmoral, departing from Rye Wharf at 10:30am, sailing around the Kent coastline and then up the Thames Estuary to Tower Pier, with the rare treat of seeing Tower Bridge open especially for Balmoral to pass through. The return journey is by coach from the Tower of London. More details about this special trip are available here.
