The next talk at Rye Museum in East Street on May 10 is entitled “The manor of Mote (The Story of Iden Castle at Peasmarsh)” by Christopher Whittick.
Christopher is the Senior Archivist at The Keep, the County Record Office, and he has studied all the existing documents about this almost forgotten castle and he shares his knowledge in what is sure to be an interesting and enlightening talk.
The castle was similar to its counterpart at Bodiam and was built to protect the rear approach to Rye from French invaders – but now all that remains is a pond area, a part of a small nature reserve.
The following month’s talk by Chris Viner continues his study of Napoleon “Napoleon and the Jews” on Thursday June 14 and this concludes the museum’s current series of talks.
All are welcome to the talks – £3 for members £4 for guests – which include refreshments and a raffle.
