Just returned from sunny, hot France with friends, enjoying swims in the Med and in lakes, listening to a Spanish band in the Village square and dancing the night away. What do I come back to, getting soaked and slightly depressed, writes Heidi Foster.

But not for long  – having great fun on Thursday night at the Standard (in the Mint) at the first music night of the Jazz week-end. Phil Law on the piano was awesome and his ‘side kick’, amazing Jamie Smart (see photo above), rocked the room. Several guest spots, including Louis Turpin, delighted the audience.
The place was packed with friends and new faces who joined in when invited and obviously loved it.

Not tired, several of us hotfooted to the next venue, the Globe in Military Road and were able to enjoy the eclectic music of Phil Trainer and friends.

Can’t wait for the magical variety of Blues, Trad/Mod Jazz and more over the next few days.
Friday evening, 28th, an interesting event takes place in Hastings which I will sample with friends. Between 7-9pm 17 local artists will transform Bottle Abbey (near Warrier Square) to challenge public perception of it.

More news to come.
