Kindness of a stranger

The annual Marie Curie Daffodil Appeal collection was held over this last weekend March 2 and 3, and Margaret Loveridge was on her hour of duty, raising money for the well known cancer support charity. Margaret is one of the more mature of our collectors, and although the weather had improved from the snowfall earlier in the week, she was really cold. Collecting by kind permission of Jempsons at Peasmarsh, the table and collecting box were safely inside the store, but nowhere was immune from the drafts,

Surprise cup of tea!

Seeing a shivering Margaret, a kind young man and his daughter went and bought her a pot of tea. This was such a kind act, we thought we should record it, along with the older gentleman, who, having been rather short with Margaret on spying yet another charity collection box, turned round after leaving the store, apologised to her and put a treasury note into her box!
Organised efficiently as usual by Sue Cavilla, every £20 collected pays for an hour of care from a Marie Curie Nurse, free of charge to people living with a terminal illness. The nurses work day and night, caring for people in their own homes and in the nine hospices that they run. To find out more, visit the website or telephone 0800 304 7025.

  1. The volunteers who braved the weather raised an incredible £853.11 whilst at our Peasmarsh Superstore from the generous donations of our customers and colleagues.
Thank you to everyone who gave to such a worthwhile charity and to those who gave their time to collect.
