New help is available for people who are struggling to cope with everyday life because their mental health is starting to affect their prospects.

Aspirations is a free support service for anyone who is not in work but living in Rye and elsewhere in East Sussex.

It helps them:
• Manage their circumstances and mental health
• Regain their independence
• Get into work, volunteering or education

“If you’re not active in your community or working, a mental health issue or other negative feelings can affect your self-belief and your chances of making new friends or feeling more able to tackle life’s challenges. Aspirations will help people who have not already been able to find the support they need,” explains Aspirations’ Barbara van Minnen.

People work with an Aspirations adviser to draw up a plan of action. This can include activities to improve self-confidence, feel less isolated from the community, get more physically active (which can improve mental health) and learn new skills.

Ultimately, tje plan will help them feel more confident in getting out and about, accessing advice and support with the goal of finding employment, undertaking volunteering or getting into education.

To contact Aspirations call 01227 314037 or email Aspirations@porchlight.org.uk

The Aspirations service is run by the charities Porchlight, North Kent Mind, the education provider Runway Training and Sussex Community Development Association.
