News from St Michael’s Hospice

Christmas on the Coast
Following the success of last year’s event, Santa’s helpers are returning to Hastings Old Town on Saturday December 9 (11am – 4pm) for some more festive fun for all the family, in aid of St Michael’s Hospice. Come along to Christmas on the Coast at The Stade Hall and take part in lots of free activities that will fill you with the spirit of Christmas! Meet Santa (and his elves!) and receive a free gift, take part in some Christmas crafts, take your photo with our beautiful Huskies and much more! Free entry (donations welcome).

Lights of Love
Each year Lights of Love offers the opportunity to make a tangible act of remembrance for loved ones no longer with us in the form of dedicating a star or heart on a Christmas tree. Whether your loved one received the care of St Michael’s Hospice or not, young or old, local or further afield, all can be remembered with Lights of Love. Additionally, the Hospice holds Lights of Love Services at local churches across Hastings and Rother. A non-religious service is also held at St Michael’s Hospice in the Arthur Easton Centre. Accumulator challenge
We are asking individuals, students, schools and workplaces, to put their inner entrepreneur to the test and challenge themselves to raise funds for St Michael’s Hospice. We will even provide £50 to start things off

If your idea is one of our 20 selected finalists, we’ll give you £50 to put your plan into action and raise as much money as possible for St Michael’s Hospice. You will then have three months to invest and reinvest and, who knows, you might even turn £50 into £5,000.

Feeling inspired? Visit our website, complete and return a registration form, with an outline of your business proposition, by midnight Sunday November 12 2017.

Time to Care
Time to Care is an exciting new volunteering programme at St Michael’s Hospice. The Hospice is delighted to be able to offer two new volunteering opportunities to get involved with the day to day running of the clinical wards. The first of these new roles is Volunteer Nursing Assistant (VNA). This role is perfect for those who have worked in healthcare in the past, or are considering entering the field. For those with existing skills, experience and knowledge this role will enable the Hospice to enhance the level of care they can offer. For those just starting out, a robust training and support package will allow you to develop skills, confidence and understanding of what excellent care is, whilst giving you the experience needed for the future.

The second role is Ward Liaison Volunteer. From the moment a patient, family member or professional enters St Michael’s Hospice, excellent customer service is fundamental to the care they receive. Having a loved one in a Hospice can be incredibly upsetting and wanting to know how they are as quickly as possible is essential. The role of the Ward Liaison Volunteer is to be the first point of contact for family and friends who wish to know the latest information and status of a patient (e.g. receiving medication, personal care or are asleep). This role is critical in giving the best support to the families of patients and will help reduce pressure on nursing staff.

Keep in touch
The support St Michael’s Hospice receives is invaluable and they only want to send out information their supporters want to receive. It’s quick and easy to ‘keep in touch’, simply fill in the form on the website. Even if you have previously signed up to their communications, if they do not receive a completed form they can no longer contact you.
