Dev Biswal, the former proprietor of the much missed Ambrette Indian restaurant on the High Street reappeared with a bang last week, flinging open the doors to his new restaurant The Devil in Rye. The new venture was set up by Dev with business partners Caroline Phillips and Szilvia Gulyas and offers a more casual style of dining, than the Ambrette used to. This is reflected both in the menu and in the simple, clean decor inside.

There is quite a variety of styles and sizes of dishes available, including a selection of small “tasty bites”, such as wild Alaskan salmon caviar and crispy soft shell crab. Then a selection of roasts, lunch bowls and a sharing platter. The menu looks fresh and interesting with a typical twist. Food is delivered to the table as it is ready, informally. Szilvia told Rye News that the first weekend had been very busy and they are looking forward to the bank holiday weekend. Certainly it seemed to be attracting a lot of interest from locals and tourists on Sunday, with a queue forming just to read the menu.

You can book a table by calling 07277 562625 but walk in customers are also welcome.
