Great Dixter, the home of gardener and gardening writer Christopher Lloyd, is due to hold its small, special Spring Plant Fair on Saturday, April 1 and Sunday April 2. For plantsmen and women and plant-lovers, the nurseries visiting will include, for example, Beth Chatto Gardens, Domaine de la Source, Friary Gardens, Walled Garden. Quite a number of others, 21 at the last count, will be coming, too, both local and from different parts of Europe.
The nurserymen and women will give talks at their stalls on plants of particular interest, at half-hourly intervals throughout each day. They really know their subjects and all have different presentation styles.
It’s smaller than the wondrous Autumn Plant Fair, but perfectly formed, so come to see what you can find. Food includes soup, bangers and veggie options, and homemade cakes will be available. Dixterites cook good cakes!
The House and Gardens will be opening for the season on April 1, as well, so there is plenty to see.
The entrance fee is £9 (payable on the day, including entrance to gardens). It is free for Friends of Great Dixter, annual ticket holders and children under 16.
