Next Tuesday, August 29, the Rye Creative Centre in the former Freda Gardham School building in New Road opens its theatre to young talent, aged from six to 19, in a bid to kick-start a youth theatre providing weekly acting classes for stage and screen.

Tuesday’s drama workshops are free and will include fun theatre games and acting for TV, film and stage, with sessions from 11am to 1:30 pm and 2:30pm to 4pm, with a “meet the RCC team” session in between from 1:30pm-2:30pm.

The RCC has a 200-seater theatre (shown above) which has been used for various events. For more information, contact rcctheatre@ryecreativecentre.co.uk.

The aim is to have a follow-up series of pilot youth drama workshops during September.

RCC is also home to a number of artists who have an exhibition of their work at RCC from September 8-30.

Today, August 25, sees a preview from 6-8pm, with refreshments, of “Old themes, new thoughts”, an exhibition of blues musician Colin Tozer’s art. Blues feature heavily in this weekend’s Rye Jazz Festival and this exhibition will be open over the weekend, August 26-28 from 12-2pm with music in the gallery, and then from Wednesday to Saturday September 2 from 11am-3pm at the RCC.
