Walking for all

The 18th Rye and Winchelsea Rotary Club Annual Walk was held on May 22. Richard Popple and Christopher Fairman held the fort in Phillips and Stubbs office throughout the day, as 55 registered walkers, one or two others and a large number of small, large and intermediate sized dogs – and not forgetting the scouts – set off by 10am to walk either the long or shorter routes on offer. Refreshments were available at Iden recreation ground, with three cheerful stewards offering tea, coffee and biscuits!

Each person was given a comprehensive map of the routes, an information sheet and a quiz. Do you know who gave the playing field to Iden village? Or the Environmental Services national customer number? That would certainly be useful if you live locally and worry about the flood risks. The quiz was fun and seemed to be popular with the participants

Walkers said that the route was well signed, the whole walk very pleasant and the efforts of the stewards to manage the nettles really very successful. The weather was fitful, sunny and showery and so the route was rather muddy, but this did not put anyone off. The walkers were well kitted out for all weathers in any case, and some, like Neil and Oscar Sadler, do the walk every year.

Congratulations to all the walkers and all the stewards who make this such a successful event each year.
