Rye Bonfire Society held its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday March 8 and 37 members attended from all over Sussex.

The Society elected a new President, Christine Chivers, a long standing member of Rye Bonfire Society, and Christine takes on the role after the sad passing of the previous President, Jimper Sutton, last year.

The Committee remains much as it was, with Francis Warren (Chair), Neale East (Secretary, Membership & PRO) and Ian Foster (Treasurer). A full list of Officers and Committee can be found via the following link: Rye Bonfire 2017

The Rye Bonfire auction of promises, antiques and miscellaneous items will be held on Thursday May 18 at the Mermaid Inn. Viewing is from 7pm, the sale at 7:30pm. Tickets are £5 including a glass of wine and catalogue.

Thanks to the support of many local businesses and residents alike, we have many fine items up for auction including the honour of lighting this year’s bonfire (Rye Fawkes), an overnight stay at a number of local B&Bs, meals at various establishments, short break holidays, various fresh hampers and some surprises, and many more items – including cuddly toys!
