At the Rye and District Community Transport (RDCT) AGM, held on September 6, Chairman Barry Nealon spoke of the charity’s place at the heart of the local community.

Across its range of activities, operating the 326 bus route, the Dial-a-Ride service and provision of transport for school-children and voluntary organisations, the community bus service undertook well over 40,000 passenger journeys in the past twelve months.

Pat Hughes, Operations Manager, said “The sustaining of our operations is key to how RDCT operates; over 24 years we have grown carefully, always establishing a genuine need for what we are being asked to provide or set up; using our buses efficiently to do as much as possible…the “Little White Bus” has become synonymous with life in this community”.

Over recent years, public funding support has been progressively cut back requiring a significant increase in community donations in order to ensure a sustainable future. Announcing a new fund-raising initiative, Barry Nealon said: “we are appealing for new sponsors, who share our vision for maintaining this vital community asset. We are seeking Patrons who are prepared to donate at £20 plus per month; Benefactors at £10 per month and Supporters at £5 per month”.

Donations may be made by standing order. For further information contact Pat Hughes, Rye & District Community transport, Rye Wharf, Rye Harbour, TN31 7TE.
