Looking sheepish at high tide

This week saw an extra high spring tide. These occasional very high tides usually manage to catch someone out and this time, as our picture shows, five members of the local farming community, quietly eating their lunch last Monday, January 21, suddenly found water lapping round their feet and on turning round found the land behind them had disappeared.

Fortunately the water on the small piece of raised ground that they had been grazing became no deeper and, in the manner that sheep have, they stood there quietly waiting for something to happen.

Fortunately the story has a happy ending, and before the RNLI had to be called to the rescue, the water began to recede, the land reappeared and the sheep were able to walk to safety.
