On Sunday, July 15, pirates will be out in force at Hastings, writes Kenneth Bird. Hastings is acclaimed in the Guinness Book of Records as hosting the world’s largest gathering of pirates. Starting in the High Street at 2pm, the Parade of the Kraken winds its course across the Bourne, down All Saints Street to “Winkle Island” and then to “Port Royal” aka Hastings Town Centre. Then the action follows as per the programme. Recommended costume gear includes eye patch, striped trousers, frilly shirt, sword, dagger, pistol, sea boots, bandana, and pirate hat of your choice.
