Pop up glass shop blows into town

It was good to see the old Country Casuals store on Market Road busy over the Easter weekend with a new glass, picture, lamp and gift shop. Owner Paul McLaughlin isn’t sure how long he will be there, but he hopes it will be until September at least. The shop sells a range of decorated glass items, including drinking vessels, bowls and ornaments which are designed by Paul and manufactured in Romania.

The shop is open seven days a week, 10am until 5:30pm. It does not yet have an official name. Purchasers may be suspicious if they inspect their receipts. These are branded La Maison. But the glass shop is not part of Louis Swann’s rapidly expanding retail empire. Rather, La Maison has simply lent its neighbour some equipment to help it get started.
