Pump restoration gets approval

The historic pump in Church Street will soon be restored to its former glory, following receipt of Scheduled Monument consent from Historic England (formerly English Heritage). Measured drawings will now be submitted and tenders obtained. The project will be jointly funded by Rye Conservation Society and Rye Town Council and carried out in consultation with the Rother conservation officer.

The Society has the benefit of photographs in its possession, taken when the pump was in good condition. These will guide the restoration work to be undertaken by local carpenters and metal craftsmen and the work is expected to be carried out early in the New Year.
