The met office project the rise in sea levels in the 21st century to increase the risk of flooding on Romney Marsh. Despite this, however, there are proposals from developers
to build nearly 200 homes in New Romney with the possibility of a further 1,500 at Brenzett.

Lydd Airport wish to expand the runway by nearly 300 metres and are currently still in negotiations with the land owners. The airport say that they hope to sort the land issue during 2019, making it a modern regional airport, creating new jobs and “acting as a catalyst for economic growth in the region.”

The proposed excavation of 3.5 million tonnes of shingle over 12 years from seven potential sites around Lydd is set to be scrapped by Kent County Council amid fears of flooding changing the overall character of the historic setting of Lydd. It is now down to the Secretary of State to make the final decision

A proposed train halt at Kingsnorth on the Ashford to Hastings Marsh Link line has been abandoned, although Ashford Borough Council have made the innovative suggestion of using a section of the rail track as a tram link into the town. There is a precedent for this with cities such as Manchester and Liverpool also using part of their rail track system as well as dedicated track built into the road, for their trams.
