Another round of grants was presented by the Community Shop last Friday, September 6. Local Hastings and Rye MP Amber Rudd as patron handed out cheques totalling £3681 to the various applicants. Amy Breeds represented Playden WI; Val Hobbes, the Rye Allotments Association; Geoff Boudreau, Rye Community Centre; Dor Willmot, the Rye Community Garden; Pat Hughes, Rye & District Community Transport; Daliea Redman, Rye & District Dementia Action Alliance, and Penny Kingham the Rye food bank.

The charity trustees say they are becoming too successful in raising money as they are struggling to find charities and community groups to help with funding. By accruing a surplus, they hope to fund something significant in the community in the future. It was noted that one applicant was refused funding in this latest round because it had not returned the monitoring form and another because it was felt that it did not meet with the trust’s charitable objectives.

In an informal setting, each of the applicants in turn was asked by Amber Rudd to talk about the purpose for which the funds would be used. In the main picture, Pat Hughes is proudly announcing that 21,795 passengers travelled on the No. 326 bus service in the year to September 30 2017.
