Rye 1st XI travelled to Glynde looking to make it four wins in a row. Stand-in captain Harry Smeed won the toss on a good looking track. This meant Rye was batting first, looking to post a competitive score. The team got off to a steady start, losing Wathen early for 12, but Dias was taking the attack to Glynde and scoring freely alongside Hamilton (25 ), they put on a partnership of 113. When Hamilton fell with the score 141-2, the team was in a strong position. Dias continued to punish any delivery off line and he compiled a fantastic 110.  In the search for quick runs, Smeed hit a quick fire 39 and Seabrook 25, the innings finishing on a great score of 260-7.

Glynde got off to a good start with both openers Thornhill (68) and Cramp (66) putting together an opening stand of 114.  Over the last few games, Rye have taken wickets in clumps and this is what happened again. No other Glynde batsmen scored over 15.  Smeed ended with great figures of 5-51,  Wathen, 3-29, continued his fine form with the ball to rip through the Glynde batting line. Dias returned to the attack to finish of the innings and Glynde were finally bowled out for 218. This meant Rye had made it 4 wins in a row and now sit top of the league. They travel to Rottingdean on Saturday June 10, looking to maintain their fine form.

2 Centuries for Rye: Sandun Dias gor (above) 1st Xl, Mark Cook for 2nd Xl

Rye 2nds entertained Glynde 2nds in a match sponsored by The Mermaid Inn. Glynde won the toss and elected to bat. Rye’s pair 0f 17 year old opening bowlers made the first impression, as Farrow bowled Branford first ball and James Smeed bowled 7 overs for 1-15. At 22-2 Glynde wobbled, but Bishop (85) led a fightback as he and Clark shared a 98 run partnership. This was broken by the introduction of Martin Blincow, 2-40, and with the support of Clifton, 3-45, Glynde were restricted. The re-introduction of Tobias Farrow, 3-38 saw Glynde bowled out for 212 off 43.1 overs. At teatime, both the teams had 10 points.

Rye’s reply was led by a magnificent 100 not out by opener Mark Cook. He was the backbone of the innings, as the team kept up with the run rate but he kept losing partners. In fact, only Tim Brownbill (15) and Ben Clifton (11) made double figures. With Martin Blincow, Cook shared a 43 run partnership to get the score to 183 -8. Sadly, Rye was bowled out for 192 in the 42nd over. But it was a good performance by the promising youngsters of Rye. For Glynde, Bishop 2-29 and Brooks 3-30 were key to the bowling success.
