Both Icklesham Casuals teams were successful by the same score line last Saturday winning by 6-3 margins with the two games having been level at 3-3 at one stage and where defences were certainly not on top.

The 1st team were away to Herstmonceux and two goals from Charlie Cornford and one from Jack Pullin in the first half were cancelled out by an Artur Mendes strike and a brace from Liam Nulty.

The Casuals pulled away in the second period when Cornford netted twice more to give four goals in the game with Dave Pugh scoring the other Icklesham goal.

The 2nd team went 2-0 ahead early on at home to Ticehurst II thanks to goals from Ken Wadbrook and Joe Maylam. Ticehurst then pulled a goal back before Maylam got his second of the game to restore the two goal advantage. Two quick Ticehurst goals then drew them level at 3-3 with only half an hour of the match played.

Icklesham were awarded a penalty in the 34th minute for a foul on Mike Beaumont which resulted in Beaumont having to leave the field through injury but Adam Sully’s spot kick was saved by the leg of the Ticehurst goalkeeper. Only a minute later the Casuals went back in front when Solly Cooke played in Phil Badrock who neatly went around the advancing keeper and calmly slotted the ball past the Ticehurst defenders on the goal line.

The second half saw Icklesham on top and Cooke increased the lead on 49 minutes when he headed in from a corner. The Casuals had chances to add to their tally with Adam Sully’s free-kick coming back off the post and Mason Maddox going close but Ticehurst always looked dangerous when going forward with Jack Davies in the Icklesham goal looking secure when called into action.

The sixth goal came in the final minute when Badrock broke from his own half, rounded the Ticehurst keeper and slotted home.

This Saturday sees the 1st team with a very difficult match away to Wadhurst United who have yet to drop a league point. The 2nd team host Battle Baptists III.
