Cricket Club goes to local schools

This Winter Rye Cricket Club has been very busy in preparing for the 2017 season, and promoting cricket in the community.

The club has already announced the signing of Shakeem Clarke, 21 year old Barbadian Fast Bowler, son of former West Indian Test Cricketer, Sylvester Clarke. The club can now reveal a second signing, who will feature in the Rye 2nd Xl.

Claremont school working in partnership with Rye Cricket Club have stated:

“We are pleased to announce that Claremont School student Sachin Jha has joined Rye CC for the summer as the second overseas professional. Sachin is a regular in the U19 UAE squad and is looking forward to a summer of playing cricket in England, and with Rye CC who have been very welcoming. Sachin is a cricket scholar at the school and works on his game with the school’s coaches for around 10 hours per week. We are pleased and excited at the prospect of Sachin joining Rye as it will be a another step in his cricketing progression.”

Rak Patel the Director of Sport said “This is a great progression for the cricket program and the school as it allows Claremont School to contribute to the development of local cricket”.

Sachin will support the Rye Cricket Club Summer Coaching programme, and will be an aspirational role model for other young cricketers at Rye.

The Club been busy in the local community running introductory cricket coaching sessions at Playden, Winchelsea, Peasmarsh and Brede Primary Schools. Shortly a 3 week course is to be offered at Rye Primary School. Rye CC are also running an after-school cricket club at Rye College. The Primary School coaching culminated in an Indooor Cricket Tournament at Rye Sports Centre last Wednesday evening, in which Rye Primary were the winners.

These sessions provide a pathway into cricket, and into the Rye CC Coaching programme. The Winter programme is now into its 4th week with over 40 young people involved. The Summer Coaching programme commences on Friday May 6.

The Club has also been accepted as a registered Club for the English Cricket Board’s new “All Stars Cricket” programme to be launched in Mid March. The programme will be a national campaign to promote cricketing opportunities to youngsters aged 5-8 years of age. Once details are released Rye Cricket Club will be promoting locally.
