Rye Cricket Club is celebrating a successful start to the 2017 season, after being crowned as EACA Division 3 Indoor League Winners. Pictured are the team who defeated Hastings Priory in the final game of the season.

Rye beat Hastings Priory to gain promotion to division two next year. In a stunning display of cricket all round, captain Dan Seabrook (25 not out) and George Wathen (26 not out) set the foundation for another mammoth indoor score.
Harry Smeed (17) scored some great shots as did top scorer Mickey Toomey (27 not out). Fin Thomson scored very quickly to reach 17 along with Tobias Farrow ending the innings on an unbeaten 10.
Aware that if the points were equal with Ashburnham at the end of the 10 games, promotion would be decided by the amount of runs scored in previous games divided by wickets fallen to gain an average, Rye with the highest average allowed the bowling attack to change a little.
Hastings Priory batsmen unfazed by the fun spirit of their opponents, set about the task of chasing 145 runs.
Priory’s Will Lucas (26 not out) and Ben Giles (also 26 not out) produced a great partnership of 52 runs against some good challenging bowling before the talented all-rounder Lucas reached his maximum, allowing U13 Cowley (not out) to support his partner Giles to a team total of 70 for no loss.
With the games all completed for this season, the Rye indoor squad wish to thank Janet Tiltman for all the scoring that she has kindly done and also to James Jury for the uploading of scores to the league, and a thank-you to all the supporters that have cheered on the teams. It has been greatly appreciated. The biggest thanks, though, are for Spencer Fielding for organising the team throughout the winter.
The club is now looking forward to the signing-on night, on Friday April 28 at 7:30pm at The Sidney Allnutt Pavilion. All existing members and new members, especially young boys and girls aged 5-17, are encouraged to sign on for the season. It will also be an opportunity to meet the overseas players Shakeem Clarke and Sachin Jha. The club has also received grants from Rother District Council and Rye Town Council to carry out works to the upper area of the pavilion. Discussions are ongoing with Rother, to ensure the improvements will further enhance the facilities offered to members and to potential hirers.
