Rye Bays under 8s visited Hastings Wanderers unders 8s last Sunday (October 5) in their second game of the season. There were goals aplenty as both teams threw caution to the wind, attacking from start to finish.

When the game started Rye looked good passing the ball around well, but Hastings scored against the run of play. As usual the the team battled hard, with Oliver MacDonald and Jamie Beard making some great tackles. Soon it was 1-1 with Evan Whiting scoring a brilliant goal – this young lad is a goal machine!

Hastings were very quick on the attack and scored again. Young Kevin Tucker was having a great game in goal shouting at his defence to get back. Rye Bay still pushed for another goal and George Buss was unlucky not to score his first goal for the team as the ball bounced about in the area.

In the second half Rye Bay were all at sea as Hastings took control of the game and scored at will. Rye had a great period of the game where Evan scored and then Theo Cornell scored a great goal after some awesome play.

Rye Bay coach Ali Macdonald said: “Although the boys lost they played really well, with Oliver being the Man of the Match with his end-to-end running and great tackles. The team as a whole were awesome, keeping big smiles on their faces the whole game and they continue to make me so proud. Keep it up boys. Well done!

“And also Happy Birthday to Evan – the goal machine – thanks for the cake!”

The under-12 team played away the day before to Hastings United and won 5-3 in an entertaining match. Their next game is in the cup on Sunday October 12, away to Bexhill Town at the Polegrove, Bexhill; kick off 10am.
