With nearly 300 entries, the first Rother Valley 10k was off to a flying start, with runners tackling a pretty challenging course ending in the picturesque grounds of Bodiam Castle. Hastings AC provided the first three across the line, although runners came from near and far to participate.

Luckily, Stephen Carter was quicker than his girlfriend, Ruth Butterfield, which gave him time to be ready on bended knee with a ring and proposal when she crossed the line. The good news is – she accepted!

Participants were able to take advantage of Kent & East Sussex Railway’s special trains as well as Bodiam Boating Station’s ferry boat.

Overall winners: 1st Gary Foster, 2nd George Pool, 3rd Kieron Booke.  Ladies: 1st Sarah Roffe, 2nd Stephanie Rueff, 3rd Lorna Watts.

With very positive feedback from participants, this looks to become a popular annual event from Northiam Bonfire Society, whose energies will now focus on the coming Sussex Bonfire Season. Northiam Bonfire October 21.
