Rye Harbour Sailing Club (RHSC) enjoyed a successful first taster sail of the season on Saturday March 11. The weather was warm for the time of year with just a gentle breeze, enough to ensure that everyone had the chance of a great taster sail.

Altogether 12 people had a go at dinghy sailing, we received positive feedback from all tasters and some became new members while others showed a keen interest in learning to sail and wanted to join once they had moved to the area.

We raised £120 for the RHSC refurbishment project. Oliver, aged 12, said: “The sail was great fun can I have another go!” Anna was delighted to take him out again on the water. RHSC would like to thank everyone who took part as well as the volunteers who helped to make the day so successful and enjoyable.

RHSC are holding another one of their monthly taster sails on Saturday April 15. Whether you have joined the club and want to gain some confidence on the water or are interested and you just want to have a go, why not come along and join us? High Water is at 2:26pm. You will need to arrive at 1pm so you can register and be kitted out with a buoyancy aid and for insurance purposes you will need to sign in as a temporary member. Please do wear warm clothes.

If the weather is not suitable for sailing there will be the chance to cover some theory work in the clubhouse with the help of RYA videos as well as enjoy some food and drinks which will be available to buy. We do not charge for the taster sails, but if you are able to, we would ask for a donation towards our fund for the RHSC Refurbishment Project. The bar will be open with food available to buy from the BBQ.

The cladding is finished

For further information about taster sails or to be sure of a place please contact Simon Marsh via email simon@hi-flight.co.uk or call 07770 756422. We look forward to meeting you on Saturday April 15.

Tolletts, local contractors, hired to construct the new changing rooms at RHSC, are aiming to complete on time by May 9. They have been working hard to get the build completed on schedule.

The roof and cladding are now complete with the internal and external doors fixed, with floor screed laid ready for the vinyl floor covering to be fitted just before Easter. The electrical and plumbing first fixing and plastering are complete with the internal and external decoration work being carried out by the RHSC volunteers, who have offered to join a painting party over the weekend! We are delighted with the progress to date and grateful to all club members, local businesses and the public who have supported this exciting new project.
