SUMMARY:Winchelsea Beach GBBC
DESCRIPTION:Join this beach clean to help us stop harmful litter from reaching the ocean and collect vital data that we can use to bring about positive change for our seas.\n\n\n\nBeach stretch:\nWinchelsea Beach\n\n\nDate and time:\n25 Sep 2025, 10 a.m. to noon\n\n\nMeeting point:\nMeet at the car park by the toilets in Dog’s Hill Road at 2.00 pm.\n\n\nCapacity:\n20 volunteers – 18 spaces left\n\n\nSchool friendly?\nNo\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe main aim is to survey 100 metres beach for marine pollution, but we will also be doing a larger beach clean.\nWe will provide litter pickers, gloves, and bags.\nPlease wear appropriate footwear and be prepared for any weather whilst on the beach. A snack or drink may be good as well.\nStrandliners has run beach surveys since 2004. We believe that to reduce the plastic pollution found, we need to understand what it is and collect the data as evidence to lobby for change. The process is quite forensic, and is wonderful when we have a larger group because we all have our own knowledge of what “things” are!\n\n\n\nAlso worth knowing…\n\nWhat to bring: We’d recommend you pack a rucksack with a few essentials like sunscreen, waterproofs, hand sanitiser, and perhaps some snacks and a drink (in a reusable bottle, of course).\nWhat to wear: If you’re picking up litter with your hands it’s worth wearing a strong pair of gloves – like gardening gloves – just to make sure you’re protected. Sturdy shoes are a must for protection too.\nUnder 16s: To comply with our insurance, volunteers under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult who will be asked to sign a parental / guardian consent form on the day by the beach clean organiser.\n\n\n
