Luciaphiles gather round Mermaid

The good, the bad and the beautiful donned their smartest attire, polished their wittiest conversation and moseyed on down to the Mermaid for the annual gathering of the Friends of Tilling. Rye Arts Festival kicks off with a carnival procession and a Cajun band, swiftly followed by the Duke of Wellington, a mini version of the Battle of Waterloo, a dead banker on Dungeness beach, three pianists in two days in St Mary's, pop-up studios and exhibitions and some 60 events in all over the next two weeks
