Bosun’s Bite beckons

After a bracing walk on the Rye Harbour nature reserve what could be better than a hearty breakfast or lunch at the popular Bosun’s Bite, the dog-friendly café situated on the slipway just opposite the RNLI Rye Harbour Lifeboat station at Rye Harbour?

With a choice of indoor or outdoor seating, it is a lovely setting to enjoy a choice of traditional English fayre such as a full English breakfast (with a veggie option too), BLT sandwiches, scampi or cod goujons (made from fresh fish delivered daily) and chips, or a slice of lemon drizzle cake and coffee. There are also interesting and tempting twists on the usual options such as naan bread filled with bacon, cream cheese, rocket, tomato, pickled red onion topped with a fried egg and choice of chilli or poppadom chutney.  There is something for everyone as the menu includes vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. The vegetarian Bosun’s Brunch offers guacamole, grilled harissa and tomatoes on toasted sourdough bread. All the choices sound tasty and very filling and, as portions are large, the prices are good value.

Something for every taste

The day of our visit, at lunchtime, it was relatively quiet. We were warmly welcomed and we both ordered a falafel wrap and coffee which arrived quickly. The coffee was excellent, and the wrap was delicious, crammed with falafel, guacamole, pickled red onions, pesto, hummus, lettuce and sweet chilli sauce – it was enormous!

A tasty meal to help us on our way. We even took some free bagged coffee grindings for the garden on our way out!

Bosun’s Bite, The Point, Rye Harbour TN31 7TU.  Open seven days a week from 9:30am to 2:30pm. Takeaways available (no delivery)
