Rye Arts Festival Bumper Blyton

Enid Blyton for Grown Ups is a riotous parody, chock full of innuendo and lashings of puns. The cast invent an hilarious improvised adventure live on the hoof, inspired by audience suggestions.  Performed in vintage costume with music and songs, the show offers an hilarious tongue-in-cheek homage to Enid. Featuring a picnic basket of the UK’s best known improvisers from stage and screen, this is quality comedy theatre that’ll grab you by the jolly hockey sticks and leave your sides aching!

Because no two shows are the same and the audience witness the actors creating and playing multiple characters; the stakes are high! There’s everything to play for; Bumper Blyton makes for an exciting night of drama and hilarity. Expect nostalgic looks into the middle distance whilst eating a picnic, plenty of farce and a gentle stroke of innuendo in what will be an entertaining show for those who are well versed in Blyton’s novels and those who’ve never (yet) picked up one of her books.

It’s a show that appeals to people who grew up with the books as well as having mass appeal to fans of parodies and all things vintage and retro. Whether the comedy comes from satirising 1940s Britain, farcical plot lines or the quit-witted word play, Bumper Blyton provides an entertaining afternoon out mischievously playing with the tropes of Enid’s most notable works.
