St Dunstan’s Church in Snargate, Romney Marsh, organised a varied concert on Sunday, June 16, in aid of Cana School in Ethiopia.

The music was delightful played and sung by local people. It included a violin sonata, gypsy dance, the beautiful  Pearl Fishers duet, sung by Margaret Barnett and Jane Kirby (sopranos) and their most wonderful rendition of Lakme. At the end the audience was invited to accompany the musicians and singers with “Put another nickel in” and “If I loved you”.

The church was built around 1200 with just a chancel and nave. It was one of the many churches on the Marsh that were involved with smuggling. The north and south aisles were soon added and in the 14th century a spacious east end was created.
