A breath of fresh hair

After months of frustration, the wait is finally over and hairdressers have been given the green light to open their doors at last, a blessing to many of us who may be starting to look a little dishevelled.

It’s time for us to lose the pudding basin and leave it to the professionals, the budding John Friedas (Lulu’s ex) can put away their Remington (other brands are available) curling tongs, hair trimmers, clippers and scissors, and some may have to give up their hopes of auditioning for Tom Hank’s unkempt role in the remake of ‘Castaway’, and make their way to the nearest hair salon or barber.

And this is how one salon in Rye is adapting to the current situation, following government guidelines to keep their clients and staff safe and protected:

“We are delighted to tell you that as of July 4, 2020 we are reopening for hairdressing services at The Rye Retreat. As you will appreciate, we have had to make a number of changes to the client journey to ensure the salon is a “Covid secure” environment.

“If you already have a booking or are looking to make one, these are the changes you need to be aware of:

  • Service is by pre-booked appointment only.
  • Please arrive on time for your appointment. You may be asked to wait outside briefly.
  • Our team will wear appropriate PPE during your appointment.
  • Single use/disposable towels will be used for each client & washed/disposed of after each use.
  • Clients are required to wear a face mask & keep all belongings with you at your dedicated work station.
  • Protective screens have been installed between work stations, basins and at reception.
  • We will sanitise our hands before and after each service. Please use sanitisers provided upon arrival and departure.
  • Every workstation and all tools will be sanitised between each client.
  • In salon magazines and refreshments will be temporarily suspended. Please bring your own bottle of water with you.
  • Please come to your appointment alone. We can’t accommodate, children, friends, or dogs.
  • Cards and contactless payments only, no cash.
Doors are open once more, bookings by appointment only.

“Upon arrival to the salon you will have your temperature checked using a non-contact laser thermometer. Should you present a temperature of above 37.5°C you will be asked to return home. We will also check that you, or any one you live with, haven’t shown any symptoms of Covid-19 within the last 14 days. If you have, please reschedule your appointment.

“By entering the salon you are agreeing to take the risk associated with being within 1m+ of your stylist/ therapist. We request that all clients wear a face mask whilst in the salon. This is to protect our staff and other clients, as well as yourselves. We have taken every measure possible to protect you and the staff, but a risk is still involved. Please respond to this email to let us know you understand and will adhere to our Covid-19 prevention and control.

“If you would like to leave a tip for your stylist / therapist please bring change to give directly to them. We will no longer be able to add this to your bill or provide cash back services.

“We look forward to seeing you soon,
