A silent town in images

The normally buzzing atmosphere in the town has long gone, the tourists too, and the government’s message about staying inside has finally hit home. Panic buying appears to be coming under control, and we are all learning how to entertain ourselves, stay safe and adjust our lifestyles until the situation eases.

Rye News has gathered a large collection of photographs showing how the town has been affected – with the empty shops, roads and car parks which will help to serve as a pictorial record, and we hope that we will never again have to witness such a devastating worldwide event.

All the major car parks in the town, bar the odd car are totally empty, and photos of the Strand Quay car park shows the complexity involved in setting out the car parking spaces.

The leisure centre car park was empty too, and even the recycling area was tidy, clear of the pile of boxes and rubbish which often gets dumped there. A playing field is empty at the moment but it’s sure to get good use before too long.

Please send in your photographs which we can add to our library and be part of a photographic record of events which changed the world in 2020.
