A spring visitor

Signs of spring are all around us now, and those of us fortunate to have gardens, however small, can join in the delight of new growth and new visitors.

This video clip came from my son and daughter in law’s garden too late for the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch week, held this year from January 26 to 30. It is of a green woodpecker busying itself in the garden looking for worms or leatherjackets. These are the larvae of the crane fly or daddy long legs which cause damage to lawns by feeding on the roots of grass plants, but woodpeckers love them!
