As sunshine finally penetrates the sheets of rain (well for a day or two at least), Britain starts to look forward to days out on the coast. The Times newspaper has flagged two places nearby worthy of a visit in its April 14 edition. First up is the Gallivant Hotel at Camber, which is listed as the third coolest hotel on the coast.

Fairlight Glen at Covehurst Bay is listed as one of the top 15 beaches. This black-rock and sand cove can be reached by a steep path through the cliffs. To get there, take the the A259 out of Rye, turn left up Fairlight Road, two miles east of Hastings and park at the picnic site on the left about a mile up the road. Cross the road and go down the track for about 800m then bear right just before Place Farm and left through he woods. Its a ten minute walk from the picnic site.
