Bluebells, lambs and beaches

Sport for many is not necessarily at the top of their agenda but, during lockdown, the temptation to raid the fridge seems never far away, and you may recognise this equation, boredom=hunger=weight gain! Don’t worry, help is at hand.

Mixed sporting activities are definitely off the agenda for now, but a substitute to keeping fit without the monotony of running round a track or the expense of joining a flashy gym is to go out for a walk.

And you don’t have to don trousers with unzippable legs, or carry a rucksack with a map in it, you don’t even have to join a walking club, just step outside your front door, look around you, and you will find untold footpaths or places to walk whilst abiding by the social distancing guidelines. And it is amazing what you see along the way.

Who goes there? A defence pill box left over from the last war

From Rye, and depending on how energetic you are feeling, there are lovely walks to Camber castle, Camber Sands, Rye Nature Reserve and along the coastal paths to Pett and beyond.

Compared to many more built up areas we are absolutely spoilt for choice as to where we explore. The beaches are free of tourists (at least for the moment) the lambs are bounding about in the fields, bluebell carpets are being rolled out, the hedgerows are full of wild birds and the weather is on our side.

Another tough day at the office!!

And now we are encouraged to get more exercise what better way to use it than utilising what is on our doorsteps. No driving is required, no maps or rucksacks are needed – just a little motivation and the will to do it. But take a camera/phone with you, capture some lovely images along the way, and share your outings by sending them into Rye News.

So, dust off your trainers and, as the marketing guys at Nike say, “Just do it”
