The Olde Worlde Wine Bar in Cinque Ports Street had a hog roast on Saturday (October 25) to raise funds for the Oliver Curd Trust, and it was a crackling cracker. Oliver, who was clearly a remarkable and fore-sighted young man, died in 2007 from skin cancer at the age of nine. His parents Richard and Sarah raise funds to provide holiday accommodation to families of other children with life-threatening diseases. On Saturday the wine bar and garden were full to brimming as customers tucked in to tasty roast boar washed down with the various beverages on offer and all in in Oliver’s memory. Richard and Sarah would like to thank Danny and Jules for the use of their garden and wine bar.

Bore or boar?

Overheard by a shop in the High Street: “Look Joan, there’s a hog hunt for wild boar.” “Well you better get a move on or you’ll be the first one they catch!”

Ciders just right to pour with boar

Like many of the pubs and restaurants in town, the Ship Inn has a special menu this week and cider has proved to be a favourite drink to accompany the various boar dishes. No wonder it’s popular, as landlord Theo Bekker has just won CAMRA’s South East Sussex Cider and Perry Pub of the Year award with a cellar that includes best-selling organic Dorset Nectar, Crones Rum Cask Cider, and Impaired Vision perry. Pork and apples, boar and cider – its a perfect match.
