Car booters flock to Jempson’s

Jempson’s Country Supermarket in Peasmarsh held its Spring Bank Holiday weekend Boot Fair in the car park on May 27. A good array of stallholders were on site by 6am, and the eager customers were on site soon after that to pick up the best bargains.

The weather was kind, and after a slow start, the place filled up with shoppers on their way to the store itself or just coming in for the stalls. A steady stream of cars was directed into the parking spots and various jams with the petrol station sorted put by the stewards before everyone got blocked in.

This time, the beneficiary was the Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital at the top of Rye Hill. Well known for its rehabilitation ward and a variety of outpatient clinics housed in the Memorial Hospital itself, there is now a new building raising its walls above the ground for all to see.

Constructed on the site of the former ambulance station, this is the Hub on Rye Hill, a new community centre now under construction, with a large multi-use area, a cafe and dining area and activity areas, and with therapy rooms and offices on the first floor. The charitable Trust that owns the Hospital is raising £50,000 towards the costs of the building. Further information is on Instagram hubonryehill.
