Children’s choir seeks help

In January this year, a new children’s community choir was founded in the Rye Area (RACCC) – as Headteacher of Sedlescombe CE Primary School – until my retirement in August 2016 – I taught the choir for 25 years and had a most enjoyable and successful time.

I have a passion for music with children and I decided to start up a local, fully inclusive choir for children in Rye and the surrounding areas, as I know schools can find it difficult to have choirs with so many demands on the curriculum these days.

Singing can benefit a child’s confidence, self-esteem, reading skills, social skills – and to develop a love of singing is just wonderful!

Our choir is great fun! It takes place on Thursdays at Peasmarsh Memorial hall, 3:50pm – 4:50pm, term time – for children aged 7 – 12 years of age. The cost is just £4 per week. Children can join at any time – email me on dmham128@btinternet.com, or phone on 07947 806712.

The RACCC are singing at a concert on July 1, and are getting involved in other local events too, so I would like to purchase specially designed RACCC tee shirts for the choir to wear at concert/events and am looking for local people to help me and support this financially please.

The total cost is £340 and RACCC is not a profit making choir. If you would like to help please contact me via my email or mobile phone. Thank you very much.

In the summer holidays I am running two singing workshop days for all children in the local area – on Thursday July 27 and then on Tuesday August 29 from 10:30am to 3:45pm. The cost is £10 per child, per workshop, and children should bring a packed lunch with them.

A finale concert takes place at 3:15pm on the day for families to enjoy! To book your child a place, please contact me. The first singing workshop took place in the Easter Holiday and was great fun!
