Fabulous fins, acres of chrome and styling from another era

On Sunday, November 17, the annual classic car rally comes to Rye. Not just cars, but hot rods and trucks from the 1940s and 1950s will be cruising along the High Street that Sunday afternoon around 2:30pm. Then they will be lined up at 3pm for close inspection at the station car park.

It’s an opportunity to indulge in nostalgia for a period when car design had character and a lot more colour. Motor engineers competed to show off innovative solutions to technical problems as well as appealing to the new mass market of discerning purchasers.

And its not just the cars, look for the styling of the drivers and passengers – jeans with 6″ turn-ups, check shirts and blouses, scarves and Vera Lynn hair styles. Serious nostalgia reflecting a simpler time.
