Don’t get caught out

Lockdown restricts us all but, if you own a dog, at least you can get out in the fresh air and take it for a walk. I imagine many dogs have never been as fit as they are at the moment and going “walkies” is a great excuse to leave the house regularly and break up the monotony.

With all the open space around us there are endless opportunities to enjoy the footpaths and beaches, but from May 1 to September 30 certain restrictions apply.

Dogs are prohibited on Pett Level beach – 150m west from the church. Pett Level beach is next to the cliffs and has access to the petrified forest at low tide.

These are further quiet beaches situated between the cliffs at Fairlight Cove, Hastings and the expanse of flat sandy beach at Camber, shingle beaches in a quiet location away from traffic. Camber has over 2 miles of beach, but dogs are not permitted in zoned areas between May 1 and September 30.

Winchelsea beach is adjacent to an inshore area famous for its bird life, with the benefit of a sea wall and ordinarily ideal for casual walks or playing on the beach.

RNLI Lifeguard services have been postponed on all Rother beaches until further notice. For further information about beaches and car park closures during the pandemic, go to the website.

Should Rother District Council ease the restrictions if lockdown continues? After all they are geared up for coping with packed beaches.
