The AA says the prestigious award recognises “excellent restaurants that aim for and achieve higher standards and better consistency. A greater precision is apparent in the cooking, and there will be obvious attention to the selection of quality ingredients.”

The AA tweeted: “Great visit to @MermaidRye one of Englands oldest hotels circa 1420! Great meal from the chefs, well done on retaining #TwoRosettes #AAHotel”

The Mermaid’s head chef Ben Fisher is focused on using quality, seasonal, local ingredients and cooking them perfectly. He has a broad range of experience having worked in Michelin star restaurants such as Fischer’s Restaurant in Baslow, the French Laundry in California, Tom Aikens’ Restaurant in London and with Thomas Keller at Harrods. He works to the requirements of the guest and the occasion.

The focus for Ben and his team of chefs now, is preparation for the culinary festival that isDecember, Christmas and the New Year. The details of all of this can be found online.

  1. As a frequent guest at the Mermaid, I say “completely deserved.” I was there for over a week recently and every meal was outstanding.
