Guide to attend Poland Jamboree

The guiding movement offers young people many opportunities outside their units. The European Jamboree is taking place in Gdansk in Poland in 2020 to encourage Scouts and Guides aged 14-18 to discover their potential to change the world. Faye Pierce from Rye Harbour has been chosen to represent the London and South-East region at this Jamboree. It is a great honour to be chosen and Faye is really excited to attend.

Faye is a Year 11 student at Rye College studying for her GCSEs. She is a member of the 1066 Rangers and prior to this she was a member of the 2nd Rye and 1st Peasmarsh Guide Unit.

The Jamboree invites the attendees from different cultures, speaking various languages and from a wide number of countries to challenge themselves and search for skills that they have and to practise new ones.

One of the purposes of the Jamboree is to strengthen the international community and provide young people with the opportunity to meet and learn from each other. Faye is full of energy and enthusiasm and will be a wonderful representative for her region but she needs help in getting there. The cost of the trip is £1300, which Faye has to raise, and with the help of her unit on Saturday December 14, she was at Jempson’s in Peasmarsh packing bags for customers and raising funds. They were really interested in the project and asked Faye lots of questions.

Next year Faye is hoping to go to Plumpton College to study agriculture. Outside school and guiding she is a keen rider, skier and enjoys spending time with family and friends. Faye is community- spirited and organised her unit to take part in the RNLI Pebble Memorial for the Mary Stanford crew who lost their lives in 1928.
