After their involvement in the sad events of Sunday, we thought our readers would appreciate a happier story about the Rye Harbour lifeboat and her crew – Ed.
Rye Harbour volunteer lifeboat crew members Sharon Gosna and Tony Peters have just returned from their honeymoon on beautiful Lake Como, in Italy. Their relationship as crew volunteers grew into romance and they married at Rye Town Hall on 9 July.
After the ceremony the happy couple were accompanied by the Town Cryer as they strolled down to the Strand Quay before boarding the Harbour Master’s launch which whisked them away to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution jetty at Rye Harbour. They celebrated with a glass of champagne whilst cruising down the river before enjoying a reception with family, friends and fellow RNLI volunteer crew members at the newly refurbished ‘William The Conqueror’ pub and restaurant.
Sharon said ‘It was definitely Tony’s sense of humour and positive attitude that I first found attractive.’ The rest is history!
When asked what would happen if the lifeboat was called out to an emergency during the celebrations Tony replied that ‘He would just have to drop everything and go, as lives may be at stake!’ but in that situation we are sure that other volunteer lifeboat crew members would have saved the day and Sharon’s blushes.
Richard Tollett, Lifeboat Operations Manager at Rye Harbour said ‘The RNLI plays a big part in the newly wed’s lives. They share a great sense of community spirit and we all wish them a long and happy marriage.’
