The Rye Festival of the Sea takes place this year on Sunday, September 9 beginning at 11:15am with the ever popular and much loved raft race around the fishing quay starting from Monkbretton Bridge.

This is followed by a parade for the participants and audience alike through the town to the Strand Quay stage where the winning rafters will be awarded their prizes from 1pm.

The prize for the winning raft is sponsored by Councillor Andi Rivett of Rock Channel Marine who also crafted the winner’s trophy. The most fun raft competition is sponsored by Rye Shoes.

There will be an afternoon of great music, food and drink and a wide variety of stalls including the RNLI and Rye’s Fire and Rescue team.

For younger participants there will be a sea-themed fancy dress competition, and readings by the Town Crier of Captain Pugwash stories in the Rye Heritage Centre as well as a selection of rides.

At the end of the day there will be the traditional tug of war competition, sponsored by Rye News. For full details see our website or visit us on Facebook.
