The festival of fun on Saturday June 20, organised by and in aid of Northiam Bonfire Society, includes an outdoor Craft Fayre, a 10-class Dog Show, a Beer Festival, a BBQ, live acoustic music throughout the day and evening, hot and cold refreshments, and much more. Among other planned attractions are a falconry display (weather permitting) a climbing tower, and side shows to keep both the young and not so young entertained.

The Dog Show registration starts at 11:30am with judging beginning at 12:30pm. Entry is just £1 per dog per entry per class, and the classes include cutest puppy, prettiest bitch, most handsome dog, and best child handler under 16 – concluding with best in show. The Beer Festival heralds the return of  “The Highwayman’s Inn”, the “pub” run by the Northiam Bonfire Boyes and Belles in which they will be selling locally brewed ales and ciders and other refreshing delights. The live music will include an Open Mic session and be free to watch and to listen to. Any acts wishing to enter, please email contactus@northiambonfiresociety.co.uk or ring 07976 254247.

[Editorial note: Apparently having ‘a pub’ for the weekend will save residents a trip as the only local “The Muddy Duck” has been closed for a while, and may be up for sale – so they usually have to venture further afield for a pint]

The Fayre starts at 11am and runs through to 4:30pm with entry to the public being free throughout the day, although donations would be welcomed. The music, beer festival and BBQ will run on into the evening, with last orders being called at 9pm and will be the ideal way to enjoy the longest Saturday of the year. Full details, including classes in the Dog Show can be found on www.northiambonfiresociety.co.uk.  Anyone interested in booking a pitch for the Fayre should contact Simon on 07976 254247, or email nbs-fundraising@hotmail.co.uk, or download a booking form from the website.

On Sunday June 21, the Festival weekend will continue with a Boot Sale, again on the Northiam Playing Fields, starting at 11am and ending at 2pm. Entry for general public will be free, but donations would be greatly appreciated. To pre-book a pitch, please email bonfirecarboot@gmail.com for a booking form or download one from the website and save £2 with advanced payment. Entry and payment on the day for Booters will be £10 for a car and £15 for a van or truck. Entry on to the site for Booters will be from 10am. The Highwayman’s Inn will re-open for the duration of the Boot Fair as will the BBQ stall.
