The first moth event of this year at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve took place on Sunday June 25 and it created hawkmoth memories that will last a lifetime, as our visitors were able to handle them. Three types of hawkmoth were inside the trap in the morning – Privet, Elephant and Poplar!
The morning was led by Phil Jones who, before he retired, used to run the bird-ringing project for the Wetland Trust at Elm Farm, Pannel Valley, near Icklesham. He still works part-time and has been a Friend of Rye Harbour Nature Reserve for many years.
Other moth events will be held on Wednesday morning July 26, 10am – 11am, and Sunday evening August 13, 8:30pm – 10:30pm. They are free (although donations would be appreciated) so do come along!
